Memorizing Scripture

"Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom, and as you sing psalms, hymns and spiritual songs with gratitude in your hearts to God" (Colossians 3:16).

Underlining our Bibles, and memorizing favorite verses, is handy for many different reasons.  It brings God's promises to mind when we're faced with a crisis, celebrating a joy in our lives, or sharing the Gospel with a friend.  There are are a variety of different ways to do it.

Scripture Memory Cards

Here's a collection of free memory verse card that you can use to start. Undoubtedly, you may also have many favorite verses of your own to add to the list. You are invited to share these cards from Life This Side of Heaven

You can print these sheets and cut them up into cards. Put a different verse up each week on your fridge. Put one on your nightstand by your bed.

You are welcome

to download them

and print them.

Catechism Memory Cards

This is a free collection of Catechism Memory Cards made available from Concordia Publishing House.

Use these memory cards as you learn, or help your children learn, Scripture and Luther’s Small Catechism. There are color cards or black-and-white that can be downloaded for your printer.

"Most of these cards contain questions with answers taken verbatim from Scripture and the catechism. You will also find “discussion cards” in the mix, marked with a star. These are meant to launch further discussion. We hope this resource will bless you and your family as you learn and grow together!"

On My Heart

Here's a remarkable resource that is available free.

On My Heart is a set of printable, double-sided flash cards that can be downloaded.

It's a handy way to memorize the Books of the Bible, the Catechism with Explanations, important Bible Verses, as wells as Timelines of Biblical Historical Events.

It is designed for catechumens and it goes along with the catechisms of the Evangelical Lutheran Synod (ELS) and Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod (WELS). You can also choose between four different Bible translations.

(I chose to download the WELS version with the NIV1984 translation.)

You can simply print out the pages.  Or, if you prefer, you can print them out on cardstock and keep them together on a binder ring. Very handy!

Our thanks to On My Heart for permitting us to share them here.
